Screen Printing: How it's Done
Screen printing, or silk screening, provides been an age-old procedure to print on virtually any material. The screen material is stretched over a body, often manufactured from wood. It is nearly the same as a screen window that you'll have in your home, although the screen mesh is a lot tighter, signifying the weave is a lot closer together. The screen is being covered on both sides with something known as "emulsion." The emulsion can be a photosensitive material which will layer the nylon mesh. When it's exposed to light, the emulsion will harden and bonds with the screen mesh. Nothing occurs to the emulsion where light is blocked from achieving it, in fact, it is later washed away.
The procedure involves three basic methods. One is to get ready your artwork, picture or text message and get that converted to a bit of film. This film is usually very clear with the artwork or text message being black. Second is usually to lay this film together with your screen and expose it to a source of light for a pre-determined period. Third, you will put your screen onto the materials to be imprinted on and drag ink over it with a squeegee.
To print, the screen is laid down on the materials you want to print. Everything should be held securely set up. Therefore, the frame, nor the materials move at all. The color of ink you need to use is then put on the screen above the picture. If we are printing the "A" after that screen is positioned over the materials, and red ink is placed onto the screen. We will have a squeegee and draw the red colored ink down over the letter "A" and back up again to debate it another time.
